The Striking Resemblance Back Story (The Elevator Version)
At the band's inception it was known as Frodo & The Hobbits. Soon it morphed into The Sixth Sense, but when pronounced quickly that name sounded too much like 6 Cents. So by September of 1967 The Striking Resemblance rock and soul revue was born. Over the next 3 years the group would play hundreds of gigs at scores of venues in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida with horns flashing, ruffled shirts matching and Fender Bassmen rocking. This site includes a history of the group and its personnel. We've known each other most of our lives and continue our journey together as friends making music for friends.

After decades of intermittent communication and lost phone numbers, in 2010 the group was invited to make a guest appearance at the BHS 40th class reunion backed by Atlanta's legendary Cruis-O-Matic. None of us could forget the fun of that experience, so in 2014 we gathered again for an informal jam and were able to adopt Rhonda Carmichael of Chessmen fame. In '15 after we had played for a small group of friends on St. Simons at the American Legion Hall, we made the decision to go big or go home. We then secured the Brunswick Shrine Club and set a show date of May 14, 2016.
It was so much fun to play and see our friends that we brought the show back again in 2017. This time, former Chessman and Jax Symphony trumpeter Charlie Matthiessen (no, we weren't worthy, in case you're wondering) was kind enough to join us. For this 2018 show, Don Berg of 60s greatsThe Runaways, which was to become the outstanding group known as Flood, generously helped us out on guitar and vocals. Unfortunately, Butch Dukes wasn't able to make this show due to some health issues and we look forward to playing with him the next time we get together.
With just two and a half days in which to rehearse, we did our best to remember over 40 songs while we knocked some rust off of our chops. By showtime we were as ready as we were going to be. On May 5 of 2018 a couple hundred of our friends and fans joined us. We played our hearts out and the music on this home page is the result of our mission. We humbly present it for your enjoyment, warts and all. The 2016 and 2017 shows are also on this site.
We invite you to close your eyes and transport yourself back to the Glynco Teen Club, the Aquarama, Gould Auditorium, The Rec or any of the other scores of venues where you might have spent a few late '60s evenings dancing to the music of The Striking Resemblance.

With the voice of an angel, Natalie Williams provided the only touch of class we ever had. We'll never forget her duets with Dennis.
The group's founder and cornerstone. Mel Dixon held everything and everyone together. Trumpet, trombone, bass, vocals and attitude. Mel was a master of them all.
